The Transformation Journey
'Transformation' is a very different beast from 'change' (that's non-transformational change) and needs a different approach if it's to be successful.
Transformational change, ie. major change that has a strategic and significant impact may be called digital transformation, business, organisational or some other flavour of transformation. But, if it's genuinely transformational, the same things need to be considered regardless of what you call it.
For example, digital transformation will involve technology, but so will any significant change. Technology
enables
organisations to do things differently to achieve better outcomes. And doing things differently (automating, using AI etc) means changing processes and how data is used. By changing processes you have to look at what people do, i.e. teams and the organisational structure and, before you know it, you’re looking at the whole organisation, what each function does and how they interact with each other, the governance framework, culture and the alignment between operational capability and strategy.
It's all connected and this gives rise to the Transformation Journey and, as with any journey, there's a start point, a destination and an optimum route.
The above is not as scary as it sounds if it's approached in the right way. This is explored further in our
Transformation Journey workshops, referenced below.
You can also get a high-level insight into the Transformation Journey in our
video series.
